Acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine originating in China over 3,000 years ago. During treatment fine needles are inserted into points along the body’s pathways of energy. The needles stimulate and build energy, while clearing obstructions that can lead to disease or pain. Acupuncture is a non-invasive, safe approach to treating acute and chronic disorders.
Through modern research techniques and the use of magnetic resonance imagining we are continually learning more about how acupuncture works. Research shows that acupuncture calms the sympathetic nervous system (flight or fight) decreasing the signs of stress on the body. At the same time it regulates the parasympathetic nervous system encouraging the proper functioning of all the body’s systems. This partially explains acupuncture's positive effects on immunity, digestion, elimination, reproduction, insomnia, and the reduction of inflammation. Acupuncture releases endorphins, the body’s natural physical and emotional pain reliever. Acupuncture also helps to detoxify the body by stimulating areas associated with the body’s major detoxifying organs.
